2.5. Started out fun but just kind of lost itself along the way.

Cute, but it's at least 3 books that don't really hang together. I'm not mad at it.

This book was certainly interesting. It felt a little meandering to me. Like the author had a clear beginning and a clear end but the middle part she just kinda guessed at and had no real plan. It might be purposeful bc the main character is lost in life and such, but it didn't feel purposeful to me. It just felt a little sloppy. There were plot lines that didn't really end in anything or when they did end it left a huge hole where plot should be. Also a lot of the plot felt rushed if the author had taken her time with them a bit instead of instantly solving every problem then it mightve been fine. Also the main character was kinda weird and not in like a good way, in the way that she made some lile social decisions that just felt off like no human would actually do these things so why is she supposedly a smart lawyer (though we see no evidence of that) do those things??
The romance in it felt clinical and had minimal chemistry up until the very end. And it just was meh. It wasn't bad but it wasn't necessarily good either.

It was a solid four until the odd, anti-climactic, non ending, which I give a two. Averaging out to three.

I enjoyed the book and it was a cute story, but I have to say though that I was left perplexed by the pacing of this book. I felt like I was on an ADHD rollercoaster that left me with a bit of whiplash. Was this supposed to be a rom/com? Was the chemistry behind closed doors? It was just below the surface, and not spoken between the two. I felt like the relationship between Jane and Perry was rushed to wrap everything in a bow at the end. That being said it was still an enjoyable read, and a nice palette cleanser after a fantasy book.

I’m so happy this way the first book I read for the new year. A fun rom com, the story of Jane, an attorney suspended from practice after being caught canoodling on her Manhattan rooftop, provides unlimited laughs. Remanded to her apartment and wearing an ankle monitor, Jane meets Perry who is also wearing an ankle monitor for a white collar crime. Jane’s twin sister, Jackleen, a doctor who has always been the more successful of the two, plays a large role in Jane’s life. Add in a possible murder, eccentric characters and you will enjoy this Elinor Lipman book. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC.
