MS Demeanor

3.27 AVERAGE

Genuinely loved the premise but was left a little dissatisfied in the thin characterizations. Might also be because I know Elinor Lipman is capable of this but I wanted more sparkling chemistry with the romantic leads!!! Also the audiobook narrator read everything like a question, which did not help. Need more Jewishy audiobook narrators!

This would have been 4 stars if Lipman could have decided what book she was writing. There were two, maybe three books here, and they just didn't really fit together as well as they could have. I'm all for sub plots or multiple story lines, but these just didn't really intertwine or relate smoothly. For what it was, a light, quick romance read, it was good. But it could have been better.

2.5. Very average and didn’t really feel like there was a point.

A quick, light, and entertaining story. Very much a New York story and I appreciated that the lead character wasn't some naive young thing looking to make her way in the Big City - rather, she is a 39 year old experienced, accomplished person. I enjoyed this author's style and the characters were interesting and quirky. This isn't the intellectual work of the 21st century and doesn't intend to be, but it was clever and engaging and pleasant.

3.5 because the ending was a little too neatly wrapped up for me.

ridiculous but FUN

This book builds slow, and then the romance was kind of a whiplash but ultimately settled into something satisfying.

INITIAL REVIEW: Fast fun! Though it struggles to balance its characters and subplots, I inhaled “Ms. Demeanor” in a single sitting.

HOURS LATER: The more I think about this, the less I like it. As a rom-com the relationship is underbaked and as a mystery it putters into nothing.

Fun little romp.

It was fluff but entertaining.
