I should’ve stopped when I had the chance. This just wasn’t good, at all. All of the characters read flat, the hijinks were very oddly placed, some storylines were just dropped and not talked about again, and the romance which could’ve been a good addition fell flat as hell.
i dont think this book was really able to decide what it wanted to be. it kept go between a romance, becoming tiktok famous, and a murder mystery. at first i thought it was going to be about a scheme from her job trying to get her fired, then i thought the old lady was a part of the scheme and it was going to have a major plot twist (it didn’t). and then the romance was sweet, but didn’t seem like the main point (but the last 25% of the book seems to think otherwise. overall i had fun with it, but it had a lot more potential, just needed some direction.

This book was all over the place. I’m not even sure what the plot was. The romance was lacking. Just when I think I knew where the book was going it would go nowhere. It had so much potential but was a complete let down.

low plot, very slice of life. didn’t really feel like the dead neighbor added anything substantial to the plot.
Ms. Demeanor by Elinor Lipman is a laugh-out loud, quirky and fun read. Jane Morgan is a 30-something successful woman living in NYC working for a prestigious law firm. Everything is going her way until she runs into an associate in her firm and one thing leads to another and they have a rendezvous on her apartment’s rooftop patio. The only problem is that her nosy neighbor across the avenue had a pair of binoculars and after a series of events Jane ends up under house arrest.
Add a cast of characters - her twin sister Jackleen, Perry who also happens to be under house arrest in the same building, and Polish royalty. Throw in TikTok, a possible murder and romance and you end up with a book you won’t be able to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

This one wasn't for me. It sounded fun, with a unique premise (a woman gets jailed for indecent exposure after getting caught having sex on the roof of her building) but once she gets put on house arrest and starts her own IG cooking channel things kind of got boring. There was a bit of romance and an interesting twin sister relationship dynamic but overall the story fell flat for me. Much thanks to @libro.fm for an ALC in exchange for my honest review!

This book had a lot of potential but fell flat. The premise was interesting but the book was so dull and slow. All the characters were boring and the plot meandered; it was all over the place with so many random story lines that went nowhere. The writing style also hindered my enjoyment of the book; it was very stilted and just not funny.
Did not finish after about 25%, just couldn't get into her writing style.
