Although full of lovely literary elements, this book did not contain a single memorable character. Lack of details made it hard to tell one character from another and everything was shellacked in an antiquated folksiness that felt inauthentic given the racial and societal volatility of the early 20th century. No character's race is even mentioned in this book, which leads one to assume they're probably all white, so are these all Sundown towns?

I listened to the audiobook and it was delightful.  It was effortless to listen to and flowed beautifully.  Truly such artistry in the writing.

Loved this book. Well written, comfortable and engaging flow. Zorrie stuck with me well beyond the last page.

Bought in an independent bookstore in the PNW. I let the National Book Award Finalist seal give me a false sense of security. Utterly boring.

i think this genre of books is just not my cup of tea but was still a very interesting story. if you know this may not be interesting to you i wouldn't recommend but if these stories pique your interest then i highly recommend it. very short read and would make a good road trip listen
