Clearly, Leckie very much enjoyed ending a space opera trilogy with the idea that peace is born from the interminable procession of meeting after meeting. And you know what? I wouldn't like every novel to end this way, but in this series - so rich in ethnographic texture in a genre more usually fixated on the gunmetal trimmings of imaginary spaceships - it is perfect.

The novel is pretty good too!

A Fantastic Ending

This series was such a joy to read. The last two books approached the big plot issues from the first book on a much smaller scale than I expected, but I'm so glad the author made that decision. I enjoyed getting to stay close to Breq and her crew. This universe is fascinating and complex, but it's the characters that made it for me. Her crew, the citizens, the translators, and the other "cousins" were all so dynamic and interesting. I'm sad to see the end of Breq's story, but I'm excited to read more from Ann Leckie.

This book is an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the trilogy - it ties together so many threads from the previous books, really giving Breq’s story a meaningful finale… whilst leaving many more background plots tantalisingly untethered.

The payoff (9 T^T)9
Absolutely obsessed with
everyone and their mother on Athoek Station (including Station itself) deciding that maybe it really is just for the best if we shove The Lord of the Radch (TM) into a closet and tell her to mind her own business somewhere else 🤭

Also huge shout out to Breq for
using the treaty with the Presger against Anaander Mianaai
— I feel like it has been a long time coming and it was soooooo satisfying
