Book 31 of 52 for 2024
I read this one on a whim. I found out that the book club at our local library was meeting on Saturday to discuss this one &, we didn’t have plans for that part of the day & I was able to find it on the Libby app for immediate borrow, so, I decided to go for it.
I’m not the biggest fan of historical fiction when including people who really existed, especially when their real story has never really been told. Having said that, I can appreciate the genre just I do feel like this one was done really well. I also really appreciated the author’s note at the end.

I love historical fiction about strong women who were overlooked just because they were women. Most people have heard of Jonás Salk, who was credited with eradicating polio with his vaccine but there were women on his team that made that discovery possible. The author did a great job of creating an easy to read story based on true events and people. I was deeply invested in the characters and fascinated by the history.

Gosh, this book was tedious. I wanted to like it, but the emphasis on dull social interactions, with surprisingly little mention of science, was not what I was looking for. Another year, another conference, more years, more dinner parties, and on and on. Probably realistic, but exhausting and boring to read about.

So interesting! Would be a five star if it wasn’t so slow at point. Low key entering my historical fic era so this has served as a jumping off point

Women’s stories are so important to write and read about. Unfortunately, so much of this felt like nonsense and fluff (why so much dialogue?!), and the writing style really didn’t work for me.
On the plus side, I loved the author’s note! You can get all the same info from the book just by reading that.
