False Start is the prequel to the Kingsmen Football Stars series by Piper Rayne. This short novella focuses on how Lee and Shayna met in college originally, developed their connection, then the drama that blew it up. It has great characters, banter, drama, and passion. It seems to set the stage quite well for an enemies to lovers/second chance romance book in the first full-length installment, “You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows.” I look forward to seeing how it turns out!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Listened to this free audiobook with the intention of reading the book for which it's a prequel to. Premise is interesting and, if this was good, I was going to read the book.

This story was interesting, but the characters were just okay. The FMC lying about being a football fan made little sense to me. I was still interested enough to start reading the book when I heard at the end of this that the book takes place EIGHT years later. What? Eight?! For whatever reason, a lot of authors like these big time gaps in second chance romances but this prequel did not present a connection that can withstand eight years. If that was the only issue, I might still read it but it also didn't present a conflict that should be an issue in eight years. The way the conflict happened and was revealed should have been some intense conversations and groveling for, at most, a month or so and then the couple should have been fine. EIGHT years?! And the FMC is still mad about what happened in this prequel? As a grown adult? And the MMC harbors feelings after eight years? It's not the short duration of their relationship that makes me find that unbelievable; it's the lack of establishment of such a strong connection between the two characters.

I'm not taking into account the time gap for the next book in my rating because that has nothing to do with this book. I give this prequel 3.5 stars. It sets up the book well. The characters didn't pop off the page, but the premise was done reasonably well. If it interests you, give it a try.

False Start
Kingsmen Football Stars
By: Piper Rayne
Narrated by: Joe Arden, Callie Dalton

Piper Rayne has me hooked on her new series! The Kingsman Football Stars starts off with a touchdown of a meet cute! Lee Burrows, the quarterback of his college team is having some problems with his class. Given a Shayna as a tutor could be the answer to him staying on the team and getting his chance to play professionally. But this quiet, beautiful girl proves to be more than just brains. As they begin to get close though the unthinkable happens leaving us wondering where they will end up! I loved this quick history of their meeting and enjoyed getting to know them. It's sweet, spicy, and all the things I remember college to be. Fun, parties, and more fun! I can't wait to see what happens in the future! Bring on book 1!

Callie Dalton and Joe Arden start us off with their amazing talents. I don't even have to say how good it is, how they bring out all the feels and make me fall into the story. It's a given! I need more!

This college football romance was such a good novella!  False Start is the prequel to the Kingsmen Football series. A tutor/football player romance that is fast paced, adorable, and entertaining. Shayna is such a relatable female main character. Lee Burrows is swoony. There is instant attraction and chemistry between the two. I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited to read more of this series!

I read this through audio, which I recommend both either reading physical or audio. It’s a good book!
