I was super into this one at first. It’s a Rapunzel retelling. Zella is kept inside an apartment her whole life. Ethan brings her food and little else. He is her only contact with the outside world. Then two men break into the apartment, and even though they seem shady, she begs them to take her with them. Ryder, Maverick, and Enzo are not good men, but they’re good to her.

Basically they fuck her a lot and then find her father who is still alive. The twist that Maverick and Zella knew each other as children was a little corny but fine. I was really annoyed that she kills Ethan, is completely traumatized, and then just gets over it with little to no explanation. She should’ve just been fine with it.

It just made the ending feel rushed. And the book just kind of lost me a little there at the end. But I’m going to keep reading the series because the first part of this was so good.

Fairytale retellings are not a big draw of mine, but I admit my interest was piqued by all the social media teasers for Kept. I am glad I took a chance on this Rapunzel retelling with a dark romance, why choose twist. Zella's story was interesting, and I loved how the morally grey Ryder, Enzo & Maverick became her found family. If you are looking for something different, I highly recommend Kept. I am giving a rating of 4 / 5 Stars.

I needed a read for a Fairytale retelling. I wasn't expecting this book to be what it was but I really enjoyed it. My first why choose and I can see why the dynamic was good for it. Good set up. I liked the main character and I think it was written well. Decently 🌶🌶🌶 but not overkill. Definitely worth a read

Tangled is tied with Beauty and the Beast as my favorite Disney movies and the way I was so excited about a Rapunzel retelling.

THEN I learned it was Why Choose 🫠

The way I bought this book so fast and have been so excited to read it!!

I however was not prepared for all the little plot twists that were expertly conducted!

I absolutely loved it.

As usual, my only complaint is that I needed more. I love them so much!!
