pretty much every piece in the prose section felt incredibly powerful and like it resonated with me in at least some way — definitely a lot of stuff i’d be interested to go back + annotate again sometime.
poetry i just struggle to connect with more in general. i listened to ~half of the poems from the audiobook and admittedly probably absorbed very little of those. but i still appreciated this section of the book and respect lorde’s passion and craft for the art.
lorde’s ideas of embracing + acknowledging difference, her love of the feminine, and insistence to not diminish feelings + autonomy as less important than what dominant society deems as “correct” and “logical” all really spoke to me.

I am 100% in love with Audre Lorde. Something about how she writes her sexual awakening and talks about physical feeling of Mortar and pestle and how that was the first time she felt sexual pleasure. Brilliant use of imagery. Specifically the part about the mortar being a phallic object. It’s so incredible. That’s good fucking prose! I also liked “A burst of light: Living with cancer” and the poems. the evocative ones always catch me off guard. The American Cancer Society or There Is More Than One Way to Skin a Coon and Martha are some of the most beautiful pieces. I loved this collection!

I feel like I just took a class; this is critical wisdom and truth. Ordering more Lorde now.
