I didn’t know how much I would enjoy this because I sometimes don’t know how I feel about ol Busy. But this was so enjoyable! So entertaining.
Really enjoyed this - you expect honesty from someone like Busy Philipps, but this thing is hysterically gossipy at times. So much shade. But what really hooked me was her honesty about herself and about her teenage years, from drug use and bad relationships to abortions and sex that blurs the line of consent. I devoured this.
I loved Freaks and Geeks. I didn't like this book as much as I thought I would, even though I think Philipps is fine as an actress. I can't really explain what's off for me, just not one of my favorite reads.
I am, however, not surprised that James Franco is a dick.

Listened to this one as an audiobook and really enjoyed hearing it in Busy’s voice. I wasn’t all that familiar with her, except from Freaks & Geeks, but I still found her story interesting and well-told. She certainly doesn’t hold back, either on opinions or personal details. Very enjoyable.
Absolutely loved it! She is amazing and the way she tells her story is fun and so relatable.
3.5/5
First thought: this woman is a friggan baddie. She overcame a lot and is super open about her mental/physical health struggles. I really related to some of the insecurities she mentioned, and the struggles to really support and love herself. Talking about her abortion when she was a teenager was chilling and listening to her talk about all the sleaze bags in Hollywood (cough cough, James Franco) and producers who called her fat (negatively even though she was…..below average weight???) was infuriating. I appreciate her candidness.
Second thought: she’s not fully my type of human. She’s not always funny and she sort of gives off a pretentious, condescending vibe, which I don’t like. We all love Freaks & Geeks but like, come on - you’re not Meryl Streep, you know? But as I write that I feel like I’m exactly the type of bitch she writes about so…….do with that what you will.

4/ I rarely read celebrity memoirs, but this one was up there with Molly Shannon's memoir "Hello Molly!" for me... a good mix of humor and real life drama. Well written and fully in Busy's voice. The pre-fame essays were my favorite, the teenage section has some especially brave stories that will resonate with many who struggled during that turbulent time of life. I admire the authenticity, even when its ugly.
