I feel like you either love Busy Philipps or you hate her. I love her and I find her to be quite funny and refreshingly honest. I picked this book up because I am a fan of her acting AND her social media, and I knew that I'd be in for a good read. I was. Philipps gives us her life story but with a side of some hot Hollywood tea, and who doesn't appreciate that?
This one surprised me. She’s likable, hilarious, and it was really intriguing. I also really appreciated her honesty and openness about discussing sexual assault in a way a lot of people still are not. Really recommend.
I read this book the year it came out and I wish more memoirs were as honest as this one. I think because we're the same age, I can relate to a lot of things she went through as a teenager, because I was also going through the same things. The 90's was a wild time to be a teenager and I loved that her point of view, mirrors what I believe in. If you love truly honest people and books, you have to read this.
This was...okay? Philipp’s memoir reads part stream-of-consciousness, part Instagram story, transcribed. You can definitely hear her voice through the style (even in print). It mostly feels like Busy Philipps polished her diary entries and tried to include as many details, as quickly as possible, about important moments in her life that defined her career and personality. The fast pace may not be for everyone, but it made for a quick read.
I just finished a Cougar Town rewatch and figured this would be a good time to finally listen to this audiobook. Mostly enjoyed it! I liked hearing her call all the famous actors- even her friends - pretentious d-bags, and was surprised that she got as real as she did wrt her teen years. But some of the emotional ups and downs felt kind of like, I have depression and anxiety too but GIRL get it together. But she is known for being kind of a lot, so, on brand I guess.
I really enjoyed hearing Philipps’ voice so clearly. I also want even more than before for the women of Hollywood to burn the old system to the ground. Network executives are clearly the worst.
And I hope the second edition fixes the various typos (missing words, a couple of badly edited sentences) that snuck in, especially in the last chapters.

There is a lot I appreciate about Busy Phillips, and a lot that I...don't. Some of her narratives during lockdown really bothered me. That having been said, she is absolutely captivating, and I mostly enjoyed listening to her story. From a book standpoint, it ended SUPER abruptly, like legitimately felt like she ran out of steam and was like, "okay I'm done now!" But her journey is an interesting one, and she is very unflinching in her storytelling and reflecting.
I wanted to like her more but she comes off a little spoiled and not very self aware.
I hope we get more books from Busy. I really enjoyed the conversational style and the look behind the curtains.
