Gushy celebrity memoir on audiobook?! My kryptonite! There was a surprising amount of substance to Busy’s book though, from her wild youth and family difficulties, to her post-partum depression and struggles with Hollywood sexism. I recommend this one to most everyone, not just Dawson’s Creek fans!
***Trigger warning for rape, sexual assault, and abortion
I listened to the audiobook of this (read by Busy herself!) and would highly recommend if you’re looking for a fast read that’s entertaining but also leaves an impact. There were so many things that have happened to busy in her life that honestly made me so angry and were so hard to read/hear but her story is truly significant. The number of women that share similar stories to this one is staggering and really highlights the importance of talking about them. I think the audiobook was the perfect medium to consume this story because you could hear the emotion in Busy’s voice and it made me root for her so much harder in her successes. Timely and heartbreaking but ultimately empowering.

I decided to go audiobook with this one, but regretted it immediately because Busy’s voice (FOR OVER 7 HOURS) can be very grating. In fact, I almost gave up in the first chapter, but I’m glad I stuck with it. She does have interesting stories from her life and it was interesting hearing her talk about the industry and some of the projects that she has been part of. She did not hold back on negative feelings about anyone that she’s worked with and/or dated, including her own husband. I had mixed feelings about how she told stories; I liked that she used different voices for people, which made it sound like she was talking to a friend, but her overly emotional reading often sounded disingenuous. The book felt somewhat self serving, but it did keep me
listening over the course of a few days. I’d give it a 3/3.5 stars.

I listened to this on Audible, where the author narrated the book, which made it incredibly fun! It was a quick, interesting, and easy to follow memoir. I recommend listening to this version, it adds a lot to the story!
She’s funny and it’s always interesting to learn more about celebrity life. But a couple of cringe worthy moments of entitlement.
I loved this book! She’s extremely relatable and I has a ton of ambition. I see a lot of the qualities she has in myself which made this read even more enjoyable. She also started and ended the book talking about Hillary Clinton, so what more could I have wanted?!
