The first half of this book earns a strong 5, the second half a 3, hence my rocking math skills average rating. I was enthralled in the first half which focused on Busy’s childhood and teenage years. I did think,”Are her sister and mother okay with how they are portrayed??” several times but her mom shared an accolade on the cover so obviously she’s read it! Also coverage of mom did get more positive. The second half of the book covers her career in Hollywood as well as her dating life. I did get lost sometimes. Like, “Wait who is this random name again??” I would say that the second half seemed to have more negative portrayals of loved ones than you would expect. Let me expound, if your husband sucked for many years but then had a radical change and you are now still happily with him, I would maybe change some ratios of good/bad presented. It’s all real and raw, and she does have a take away message, but it’s like portrayed as - umm he left me to single parent, and I was lonely AF, and I was going to leave him for my emotional bf, but then he said no don’t leave and turned great by doing a lot of needed emotional work. The end. (Oh wait it’s not the end because you are still alive and working and plugging the next thing). It was just a bit of a disconcerting jump. Like when you vent too much to a friend about your significant other, and they start to not like your SO and you realize you only say negative things and need to backtrack. As I was reading, I felt the need to google and check they are still married right?? (yes.)
Overall I enjoyed the book. Busy is a brave woman willing to put it all out there while at the same time acknowledging the underlying needs prompting her to do so. Her self reflection is on point. I will check our her night show.

Audiobook for this memoir is a Must. Busy reads it herself, and it feels like she is just telling you her life story. It was engaging, and at times emotional, and I really got to know her. She made some poor life decisions (which she admits to), but I really liked hearing about her life and her acting. What I didn’t really like was she basically didn’t have anything nice to say about men in general, even her own husband. It was hard to read at times, despite understanding where she was coming from. She’d been through a lot. But I liked this a lot more than I thought I would!
Not a fan of busy Philipps but the book was enjoyable.
An absolutely amazing "celebrity" memoir. I put that in quotes, because reading this was more like reading about my best friend (please note we are not best friends.) I laughed, I cried, I wanted to hug the book. Thoroughly enjoyed this read.
loved this memoir! made me laugh, cry, smile. Loved the doodles at the end of the chapters and how honest and vulnerable this one. felt like just chatting with a friend

I read a lot of celebrity memoirs. This is a really good celebrity memoir. It is well written, she has interesting stories, and there is just so much to unpack here. From sexual assault, to abortion, to sexual harassment, to her friendship with Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger’s death, this is just a fascinating book. I read it in two days.

Such a fun read. And despite Busy’s celebrity status, she’s so relatable. I loved it.
