This is a simple and elegant introduction to many, incredible women. Nestled in the mix of the usual list toppers (Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Oprah Winfrey), were new names for me: Nellie Bly, Maria Tallchief, to name a few. There's a nod to Rosa Parks in the piece on Claudette Colvin; what a lovely nugget of history to include.
Little girls (and boys) will learn a little history from a formidable group of female role models in the gentlest of manners.
The illustrations and accompanying quotes are a beautiful supplement to the mini-bios.

I thought this book was great! It had a wonderful "girl power" message. My 7 year old daughter loved it and commented with important fats about some of the women she knew of. We loved the illustrations also!

Such a great book to empower and inspire young girls. We need more books like this! She Persisted is worth reading even if you are far from the intended age, it's a quick pleasant way to be reminded of the women who have paved the way for us. The illustrations are beautiful and diverse, it is a great book all around. 5/5

I loved this book because it will inspire young girls to follow their dreams. I also read about some women's stories that I've never heard of. I loved the fact that this book mentioned Claudette Colvin because her story always gets overshadowed by Rosa Parks in terms of the Civil Rights Movement. The fact that the book also mentioned Florence Joyner was cool cause she was an amazing track and field star. Every little girl should read this book.

Chelsea Clinton, herself someone to be admired, chose 13 really interesting women to inspire the young girls of today. Each double page consists of a short, informative piece about each woman's accomplishment/s, a quote from her, and an illustration of her "in action." It was fun to turn each page and anticipate who would be the next person included. If you, too, would like to anticipate the thirteen persistent women, read no further. The are: Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Clara Lemlich, Nellie Bly, Virginia Apgar, Mari Tallchief, Claudette Colvin, Ruby Bridges, Margaret Chase Smith, Sally Ride, Florence Griffith Joyner, Oprah Winfrey, and Sonia Sotomayer. (I would then include Gabby Giffords.) Great book.

I love the watercolor artwork.

I'm so pleased to see so many books coming out now that are geared towards children and finally, FINALLY feature women. Not just women, but real women of all backgrounds that have done extraordinary things.

I can't get enough of these!

I love what Elizabeth Warren did, more than I loved this book. I love that this book exists, more than I love the style in which these historical women are presented in this book. It was good, just not great. I’d still buy it, and share it with the Girl Scouts.

Empowering, beautifully written and illustrated.

I am working on reading books by the Presidents of the United States and their immediate family. I love the idea of She Persisted, but the execution is a bit disappointing. I might have loved it more had I not previously read "Of Thee I Sing" by Barack Obama. Other than each woman persisting there was not a link between the women, and why stop at 13? I think this is a great way to bring exposure to women that usually don't get the spotlight or may not be remembered in history. This was a good read, but I wanted something more from it.
