An Inspiring book about 13 women who helped shape the country we live in. These women rose above what people said a woman could do. They persisted. We need these examples to remind our next generation that everything is possible to them.

To open doors, children need to know there are others who have opened doors and we can now step through. Be done with limits.

The art gets the job done.

I got this for my Niece and I don't know if she gets it and she did enjoy the story.

Books written by people already famous don‰ЫЄt always go as well as you‰ЫЄd hoped. But this was fantastic.

There were a few I didn‰ЫЄt even know.

And yay for the inclusion of Claudette Colvin! I had read Ms. Colvin‰ЫЄs story, and was surprised that it was so obscure.

Great book. And great for your young girl who is probably going to have to face some opposition in chasing after her dreams.

I was hoping for more! This book has fantastic illustrations and the women chosen are certainly worthy of being studied and emulated. However, the text reads like a Wikipedia entry - a short Wikipedia entry - it's just not inspiring at all. I love the idea of this book, but the execution itself just fell flat. There's no inspiring narrative, no explanation of how these women achieved their dreams, just a short listing of facts that's pretty boring to tell the truth. Sigh. Two stars instead of one because the illustrations were nice.

Really cute book

I would have loved to have read a book like this growing up! Great stuff from my colleague Chelsea. This Chelsea feels encouraged for greatness.

I was not expecting to be so moved by such a simple book but I was. What? No...I'm not crying....shut up. Women featured in the book are Harriett Tubman, Helen Keller, Clara Lemlich, Nellie Bly, Virginia Apgar, Maria Tallchief's, Claudette Colvin, Ruby Bridges, Margaret Chase Smith, Sally Ride, Florence Griffith Joyner, Oprah Winfrey and Sonia Sotomayor. And you guys....the art...the art is beautiful.

Every little girl needs to read this book (or have it be read to them).

90%

She persisted tells the story of 13 women who shaped their own careers and the world in persisting in following their dreams even when everyone around them told them they weren't capable or would never be able to achieve anything as women. I'm all about girl power so I absolutely love the idea of showing girls in my future classroom what it means to stand up to those who are constantly working against you. I think that this could also be a lesson for the boys too, there are always stories of men achieving their dreams against oppression so they have plenty of role models to look up to while listening to this book and gaining an appreciation for the abilities of their female peers.

A book chosen for our school library, I appreciate historical compilations such as this. Kindergarteners -adults will enjoy this book. I love it for the "story time" component. Kids get a taste of what each woman has accomplished and seek out to read the biographies of historical figures mentioned.

When a book will lead kids to reading more books, it gets 5 stars from me.

Bought this for my son who really enjoys the stories. There is just a short story on each page, but the circumstances surrounding each story has generated good discussion about bigger issues like slavery and segregation and bias.
