Great book for young girls! 13 awesome women are introduced. This would be a nice intro for kids and then have them pick one of the women to research in depth.
This is a wonderful book about thirteen women who persisted even after being told they should shut up and stay in the kitchen. In the case of prima ballerina Maria Tallchief, she was told she should change her name because “Tallchief” revealed her Native American heritage. Instead, she became the first American prima ballerina.
The illustrations were wonderful and the vocabulary appropriate for my first-grade niece. The stories are inspiring and important. Highly recommend.

I started crying reading the book jacket and never really stopped. 5 tissues and a short while later I had learned about 13 incredible women, 7 of whom I had never learned about in my 15 years of school and 23 years on this earth. I love that the women chosen came from different cultural backgrounds, were from different time periods, and all pursued different fields. The descriptions were informative, but simple enough for a child to understand. The illustrations were beautiful. I loved that each page included a quote from the woman discussed. Everyone should read this book and then read it to the little girls (and boys) in their life.
I actually was not aware of a couple of the women in this book. A great collection of women for girls and women to look up to.
Beautiful picture book telling brief biographies on amazing women. A must read for all!
"Sometimes being a girl isn't easy. At some point, someone will probably tell you no, will tell you to be quiet, and may even tell you your dreams are impossible. Don't listen to them."
My only issue with this book is there are far too few women mentioned.
Persist. Always.

Love it

Short, well-written biographical snippets make this an excellent mentor text for biographical writing.
A nice overview of many iconic women. Not much meet, but could be a catalyst to look further or just a confirmation to young girls that all the doors are open.
Au has loved this book since she got it for her second birthday! "She puh-sisted" Love the illustrations and the stories of the women featured, even though I had some issues with the overall flow of the writing.
