An inspiring chronological tour of women in American history who persevered against the odds. It's not just the famous ones you'd expect, like Harriet Tubman, but also a lot of more obscure or unknown figures--Claudette Colvin instead of Rosa Parks, for example. I'll be gifting this one to my friends' little girls for a long time.

Wonderful introduction of 13 American trailblazers. A must for any school library.

Sometimes being a girl isn't easy. At some point, someone probably will tell you no, will tell you to be quiet and may even tell you your dreams are impossible. Don't listen to them. These thirteen American women certainly did not take no for an answer.

They persisted.

If you're looking for an easy-to-follow kids' book to empower and inspire, check out this delightful picture book written by Chelsea Clinton and illustrated by Alexander Boiger.

She Persisted offers a selection of profiles of women who persisted -- women who were told "no" or faced major hurdles, whether legal or cultural or physical. Each of these women followed their dreams, and made their marks on history by achieving something that no one thought possible.

My only complaint is that no dates are provided for any of the stories. I'm not sure how young readers would know where these women fit into American and world history without providing some sort of timeline or dates as context.

Other than that, I think this is a wonderful addition to the world of children's literature. The book is lovely, thanks to the clear, intelligent writing and the colorful, eye-catching, girl-positive illustrations. I recommend it highly, and hope that lots of parents and teachers will share this book with the girls and boys they love, nurture, and inspire.

Always wanted to read this book, so glad I finally did.

Purchased for my daughter. This is one of many books in her collection, as I never want her to feel like she can't do something because of her gender.

Loved the thought that went into every woman presented, and how it was women from all races. We need more books like this for our children to read.

Empowering book for readers about the power and importance of persistence. A range of persisters are included, woman that young readers have heard of and some they haven't learned about before this book. Inspiring read!

After a reread some of the luster comes off, though the illustrations are still really beautiful and I appreciate the mix of some well known and a few less well known names. I do love those watercolors though.

Fantastic!!!

I don't have enough words to describe how much I LOVED this book. Beautiful story of amazing women. This will be a book that I share for many years to come in the hopes that it shows my girls to persist.

An inspiring picture book that tells the story of 13 remarkable women. Each woman has a short paragraph about how they persisted, a quote they said, and a illustration (many as children). A recommended read a loud for all young girls.
