I don't have enough words to describe how much I LOVED this book. Beautiful story of amazing women. This will be a book that I share for many years to come in the hopes that it shows my girls to persist.

An inspiring picture book that tells the story of 13 remarkable women. Each woman has a short paragraph about how they persisted, a quote they said, and a illustration (many as children). A recommended read a loud for all young girls.

Wonderful little bios of some very heroic women.

This children's book is a wonderful introduction to several powerful women.

This reads like a love-letter to young girls; Chelsea Clinton's 'Top 13' may not be my thirteen, but this certainly starts a fantastic conversation about who we look up to and why. Ultimately, the message to young girls is that they can be ANYthing they want/dream/desire.

Boiger's ink & watercolor illustrations show friendly-looking, diverse children perusing a museum, and then friendly-looking, diverse girls growing up to be women who "persisted" sufficiently despite obstacles including racism, sexism, ableism, and classism to become famous and effective agents of change.

The drawback is that each double-page spread is too brief to offer much insight into the lives of the 13 women chosen by Chelsea Clinton.

The highlight - besides the beautiful illustrations by Boiger, are the single quotes from each of the women that offer children a message of motivation and focus directly from the women themselves.

The illustrations are sweet, and the message throughout is earnest and completely well-meaning. However, it really doesn't catch the interest of kids, but rather it is picked up by the well-meaning, earnest parents such as myself who will purposefully sit down with their kid and unfortunately make the reading experience not-so-fun. "Listen to this story, darn it! It's about girls who do really important stuff. I don't care if you're bored. Look, it's history, it's important!" I do not have what it takes to give elementary-level education.

Small biographies of some of the women who have changed the world like Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, and others whose names are familiar as well as some who may be new to you. Wonderful introduction to some strong, intelligent, and creative women.

Short stories for middle grade about 13 remarkable women. Most were familiar but one or two weren't. Good for young girls to have some role models beyond pop singers and reality TV stars.

This is such a staggeringly important series. I can't believe it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I even found it. Now I'm devouring every book in the series I can find.

Many, many thanks to Chelsea Clinton and all the women of The Persisterhood for their contributions here. I am a better sister and voice for the women of the world for having read these books, including the inspirational stories of [b:She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World|34504361|She Persisted 13 American Women Who Changed the World|Chelsea Clinton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1489947578l/34504361._SX50_.jpg|55758109].
