An interesting premise but with all the flaws that also come with older horror movie plots. I couldn’t get stuck into this enough: while it had some truly memorable gory scenes (for better or for worse) I found myself pulled away from the story more often than I was drawn to it. The ending was too ambiguous for me and the characters too inconsistent for me to properly latch onto. Not an awful read but not one I really enjoyed either.
This book was weird af, so I liked that aspect. Lol I don't think there was enough explanation in the end. I may come back and write a complete review of this one later.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very atmospheric and unnerving! Definitely creepy and disturbing.
The ending however was odd. I felt it ended very abruptly and there wasn’t enough information about what was going to happen.
And talk about frustrating that poor Sarah kept getting blamed for everything while Elizabeth got the privilege of living a normal life at home! And then to just have Sarah shut back down after finally feeling better and Elizabeth get possessed (or whatever that was) again and have the whole thing start back over?!
Overall, great book, bizarre ending.

An unpleasant but undoubtedly affecting little tale with some truly horrifying scenes of child abuse and torture. Well enough written and well paced.
Why everyone in this book is so quick to forgive an attempted child rapist is beyond me, though.

I read this book when I was a teenager and can hardly remember a thing about it other than that it scared the crap out of me at the time. Small town, evil kid, and a horrible, dreadful scene involving a cat that I've completely blocked from my mind.
After reading this book the one word that came to my mind was "why" in more ways than one.
Why did my English teacher have this in her class library?
Why did I read this?
WHY did I READ this?!?!?!
Don't get me wrong, it was a great book, but just really really disturbing at times.. A lot of times... Many many times... Basically the whole book.

It started out good, but then it was weird. Didn't really flow well.
