I just didn't love it as much as [b:Freak the Mighty|8953|Freak the Mighty|Rodman Philbrick|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165847193s/8953.jpg|2049173]
Danged thing nearly had me crying in a couple of places. I resisted reading this book for years, afraid that it could not measure up to Freak the Mighty. Turns out, it was still pretty darn good. Lots of interesting characters. Lots of twists and turns. And a Max that has grown (and more than just physically) in the year since Kevin had died.

This book was ok. It was not even close to as good as Freak The Mighty. It might just be that I miss Freak, but I did not like this book. Sorry, Mr. Philbrick!

It's no Freak the Mighty, but this book did capture the heart of the original! Elden Henson as the narrator is a lot older when he did the narration for this one and while its a little off putting the way his voice is trying to sound, there's almost a bit of charm to it. It almost feels like how you would imagine Max to sound once he hit puberty.
If you're a fan of Freak the Mighty, you'll love this one too.
There's also a LOT less slurs and general abelism in this book, but this book didn't need to follow that the way Freak the Mighty did.

(3.5/5)
All I have to say was that it was alright, as a story, but the events were interesting. I'm glad Max has improved from the first book and is willing to help. Such a shame that they assume he's a criminal just because of his demeanor.
