This beginning book is about 3 shapes, circle, square and triangle, all have limbs and eyes. They play hide and go seek and find something in the waterfall they can't see. What is it???
The ending is what saved this story for me. We are asked to imagine what it is. I rarely come across it. So then I decided to read this too the nephew and see how he takes it. We read the story and the ending stuck in his craw. He kept asking me what it was, over and over. I told him I didn't know. How can we not know? he asked. I told him there are lot of things in life we can't know. He said he didn't like not knowing and he gave this 1 star. He was actually a little upset over being left in the dark literally. I had a good chuckle over him.

I'm a bit baffled by some of the reviews here. I have the feeling that the people who didn't "get" the ending are the same people who ask what a "huckleberry friend" is while listening to the song "Moon River." Oh well, I guess not every book is for everybody. This one, though, like the whole series, is for me.
I liked this one more than Square. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger though. I love how Jon Klassen can draw such completely simple yet expressive eyes. There are 3-4 spreads of just black with eyes and text and it takes a dynamic duo like Jon and Mac to keep that interesting.
Who knew picture books could make me give such good hearty laughs.
Witty and Fun!

WE LOVE THIS BOOK! This is the third book in the Shapes Trilogy. It's such a brilliant idea to do a trilogy for picture books. The first two books are a big hit in our house and Circle did not disappoint! This one might actually be my favorite.
From the simple but lovely illustrations to the wit and humour these books posses. You cant help but love them. This book teaches overcoming your fears. Circle is afraid of the dark but when triangle goes and hides behind the dark waterfall she has to face her fear and be brave to go find him. It has such a simple message for kids and comes across perfectly. I loved how the end was open to interpretation as well. Leaving you to use your imagination. This is a definite reccomend read for kids in my opinion. Plus the other two in this trilogy. Really anything Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen do. They are two of my favorite kids authors/illustrators.
This book comes out Tomorrow March 5th!

Kids will laugh out loud, while also thinking about shapes. Great for preschool and Kinder.
Magical ~ Brilliant ~ Beautiful
tl:dr: Imagination is shapeless (and full of shapes)
How can they do it? How Barnett and Klassen make such amazing books, pictures books certainly, but just for children books? This book is called Circle. There is a circle. It is about circles, sort of. But, Barnett and Klassen start with geometric shapes and move the reader into the infinity of imagination. I'm consistently amazed by the authors' abilities to create instant classics. Absolutely wonderful book.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
