This was a very rewarding book, if uneven in the first few essays. The more recent artists are covered beautifully and lyrically, and I'm glad that details are preserved here. Note that throughout are woven vignettes about the author's upbringing and abusive household.

Would love to see more from Smith about her time at Vibe, whose early promotional CDs were life changing for many of us. Between her writing and her participation on the podcast "60 Songs That Changed the 90s", Smith is one to follow.

Listened to audiobook for first few chapters it couldn’t keep my interest partially because I was unfamiliar with the artists that she was referencing but she is a really good author and narrator
