Cute, easy light rom-com read; nothing insanely new to the table or over the top, but enough.
The sheer amount of Baking/Food Similes, however, were criminal.
Like.
I get it.

"If you need to be anything other than exactly who you are - for anyone - then the problem is with them, and not with you."
The Second Chance Year follows Sadie who has been having a very bad year. She lost her job, her boyfriend, and has been living at her brother's best friend's apartment. Convinced that because others have called her "abrasive and outspoken", she makes a wish at a New Year's Eve party to re-do the last year. Unbeknownst to her, the wish comes true and she uses the opportunity to fix everything that went wrong: keeping her job and boyfriend.
I really enjoyed this book. What is a very foreseeable "go back in time and change things but things go badly" plot line had a refreshing take. The story had great pacing and I adored all of the side characters we met along the way. The characters felt fully-developed and added depth to the story.
I think my favorite aspect of this book was the personal growth that Sadie experienced. We could feel her internal struggle with wanting to be the "loud, outspoken" woman that she truly is, but feeling that she can't be that woman because she had already dealt with those consequences and wanted to avoid said consequences. The slow-burn, friends-to-lovers romance unfolds in a very natural progression that is believable. Jacob, our MMC, is sweet and someone we can easily fall in love with.
Additionally, it is important to mention that this story deals with workplace sexual harassment. Wiesner does an amazing job of dealing with this very difficult topic sensitively.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for quick, fun read!

Middle not written well. Doesn’t trust the reader to remember basic facts about characters so they’re constantly repeated. Beginning & ending were good
This story follows Sadie Thatcher as she redoes the worst year of her life. She lost her job, boyfriend, and apartment in the span of three months. I was really drawn to Sadie in the beginning because she was portrayed as strong and independent. But all of that goes out the window when she repeats this year over. Instead of standing her ground, she loses herself and stays quiet. This was annoying because she caused her best friend to lose her job and a bunch of other things. At one point, I wanted to tell her, GIRL, STAND UP.
I like that realizes in wishing for a do over that she missed out on certain opportunities or finally notices red flags. Within the book it was a little strange that time was passing by months, but I also understood it was important to the whole redo year in knowing the timeline. This book could have been more flushed out. It was hard to truly enjoy the main character.
Also I did not see the chemistry at all with her love interest. She’s known him all their life (brother’s bff) but adulthood is when she had her first convo with him?? Unrealistic.

- I loved this- ideal rom com for me- light time travel!
- I mean it does annoy me when MCs are totally oblivious to the man being in love with them but 🤷🏼♀️
- Also like it took her long enough to figure out she was acting shitty but again, loved reading this
Classic time loop book of the main character reliving the last year of her life to make better choices. It is pretty predictable as they always turn out how they are meant to be. But I loved the characters and would recommend.
