Four got whole new personality in short stories, not that he had one to begin with. But it's bit too much and it doesn't feel like him from the original series. We are reminded, again, that Four has a thing for fragile
The best part was inner motivation of Marcus and Evelin that Four is suddenly aware of, even tho he magically forgets all of that in the actual series. And the part how Eric got to the top of Dauntless and how he changed intiation program, because Four didn't know what he wanted to do with himself and decided to back away from leadership program. That part was very in character for him, he's dumb.

I don't like that Four found out about attack on his former faction and sort of forgot about it for a while. I mean he had more important thing to think about like how to make Tris like him, and decided that sharing his worst fears on the first date is great idea, nothing like trauma bonding to set the mood.
That story ended with very vague mention that he will tell someone important from the faction, other than his father, but it's never actually confirmed.

Also, I feel like there're some inconsistencies, like added dialog to scenes that already happened. But maybe I just didn't pay attention first time, who knows.

Anyways, it was short and interesting. It didn't ruin my impression of the series, the second book did. And the fact it's very generic dystopian series.

I loved getting a more in-depth look into Four’s life and his past before he joined dauntless

One thing I can say is that Four is a much more interesting protagonist than I think Tris ever was.

This novella is formulated really well. I enjoyed that it was broken up into segments throughout Tobias's life and how he went from Abnegation to Dauntless, from a "Stiff" to someone that other initiates looked up to and emulated - Tris included.

When I reached the end, I felt a wave of disappointment. I realize that the "after Tris" story is summarized at the end of Allegiant, but I had hoped for a little more expounding on that timeline.

This was enjoyable to read, but left me with questions I didn't even know I had after finishing the Divergent series (which I've read more than once). I would love for the author to one day write an extension with Tobias's perspective for each of the books--and after...
