I also don’t normally like a lot of pov chapters outside of the main characters. HOWEVER, this book absolutely changed my mind. I felt like the outside povs were necessary for understanding the world and its politics. I loved this. I’m excited to read the next!

It was, however, a slow go for me because there was a lot going on at once. I took down one star because there were a wide amount of characters whose POVs we got to see but I felt not enough time was spent with them. When some characters were killed off, I felt nothing, and I felt like I was unsure if I was supposed to or not. I feel like having less POVs telling the story would have made for a better story but I am absolutely going to be picking up the sequel of this.

you get to know this very early on in the book so I don't classify this as a spoiler, if you think it is Idc. Malini (one of the main characters) is forced to take a drug that has some really awful effects on her mental state and body so beware if you're sensitive to that type of stuff.alexiab's review against another edition

I love when a book has a plot that just keeps coming and keeps the reader enthralled, and that’s definitely how this book was written. the use of different POV for that intimate look into a characters choices was wonderful, and the magical system being unique but easy to understand was an aspect I really enjoyed. Even when it was yucky.
Since the plot was very maintained in the one location for the most part, I think the world building felt like it was missing a little *oomf* to see exactly how detailed this world is, but I’m hoping the new adventure of book two will broaden the world.

Priya, Malini and Bhumika’s characters really left an impact on me, they’re such excellently written characters with very interesting journeys. i will absolutely be reading book 2 and from where things left off i already know i’m gonna love it.
