I had very high hopes for this book but I truly didn't enjoy it at all. It was a struggle to finish. The romance felt forced and a lot of the violence felt unnecessary. Every other page someone was dying, self-mutilating themselves or sacrificing themselves in someway. This should be marketed as fantasy/horror. It made me sick to read.

I didn’t hate this book. It’s an interesting premise, and the folklore is somewhat unique (though the storytelling within is too often used to move the plot along). But it just didn’t grip me and I couldn’t quite get into it. Perhaps it was the hasty romance, which again I didn’t hate. I think I just wasn’t focused enough to really get into it.

The Wolf and The Woodsman is a folklore readers dream. Filled with adventure, politics, magic, and a dash of romance, this book delivers on all points.

Admittedly, some may find the female heroine to he brash and sharp. Therefore, it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Honestly, this is currently a 4-star book. But I know that I would have rated it 5 stars if I was in the right head space.

Vibe: Winter, frost, and eerie. Adventure and political intrigue.

Triggers: Violence and gore, abuse, torture

Pros: Strong female lead, beautifully written, folklore galore, strong plot

Cons: Potentially annoying female lead, lack of side character development
