Little Weirds

I am dead serious on this one.

Well this was shitty. Or, 90% of it was. I expected more ‘weirdness’, and better writing. I loved some of the chapters (hence the extra star), but overall the writing style and feeling of the book jumped back and forth. Meh, not for me.

This was a moving and fun read. I connected with so many of the vignettes and sentiments (like the power of my female friendships). It felt like we were growing up with the author through her essays. Conceptually, that is such a fun idea! In reality it means that we need to connect with an immature and naive voice at the very beginning of the book which was a hard sell for me. By the end of the book I felt more familiar and settled with the author’s voice but it was hard to connect to, which felt doubly awful because of how strongly she’s looking to connect. Also, I feel like a little stricter editing could’ve helped some of the redundancy I felt. Some exact phrasing/ sentiments were repeated.

Beautiful messages throughout and captivating descriptions of the human female experience, but not my exact cup of tea in terms of delivery.

I think I need to get the physical book, because the audiobook is hard to follow along with.

Fun writing style but all I got out of this was that the author really wants a man to love her. So much so that it's the epicenter of her well-being. I wish her well but this book was not for me.
