Sabrina:
This picture book is formatted like a script without the stage direction. The premise of the story is enjoyable; however, the formatting made it difficult for me to fully appreciate the art style and the story itself.

The cover makes this book look like a lot of fun, but nothing about it worked for me. Each line of dialogue is preceded by the speaker's name and a colon, and because this picture book is not otherwise structured like a play, I found this distracting and off-putting. Also, the characters lack development, and many of the dark, colorful illustrations are so chaotic that it is hard to know where to look.
I did not like the story either. It could be funny to see cranky stuffed animals at a tea party, but the story revolves around their bad attitudes and complaints beforehand, rather than showing what went down while they had tea. The book is choppy, going from one complaint to another, and the changes of heart and sudden shift at the end did not provide a satisfying ending.

I appreciated this, since it's not often you get a book where plushies are complaining.

It's unusual to see a play written specifically for kids this young. For that alone, this is incredibly interesting.

It's a beautiful day. It's time for a tea party!
"All Stuffed animals: NO THANK YOU!
Clarissa: But I insist! I'm setting
the table and you're all invited."
But the stuffed animals continue to refuse to participate, all sharing what sounds like solid reasons for their refusals. Clarissa has comebacks to each, and eventually the animals' feelings are assuaged and the party begins.
I can hear the true voices of little children coming from those crankypants stuffed animals. And it's all written as a little play, with fun illustrations.
