Tense, but gripping court/crime drama. Explores the experience of those with Asperger’s and the prejudice, disconnect and communication issues they experience.

IMHO, one of her best, not only because of the painstaking research that she does in order to educate the reader on AS, but because she really puts you into the household of the Hunts and made me feel the frustration of both Theo and Emma.
I didn't mind that there wasn't a crazy twist at the end, and I figured out how Jess died, but I didn't figure out exactly why Jacob did what he did.

Without getting spoilery, I have a hard time with the thought that a person with Asperger's would find the choices that Jacob made rational, logical or honest. I could be wrong, this book being the most experience I have reading about the syndrome. Other than that, I enjoyed the book a lot. I also don't know if I subscribe to the vaccinations/autism theory (that it seems pretty obvious that Picoult buys into - I am not making a sweeping denial, just saying that I haven't really looked at the data), but I love her writing, and I always love her characters, even the flawed ones. I felt very deeply for the mother in this story, like I always do.

I'd say good 3.75. It was a hefty book, but I was compelled to keep reading it, even though it was a bit predictable. It makes you think about a lot of things, not just what it is like to live with AS.

Although I guessed the ending very early on, I persevered with it expecting a massive twist or shock like My Sister's Keeper (the only other book of hers I've read, which I enjoyed). There was no huge shock though and I was left wondering why no-one ever asked Jacob straight out "Did you kill Jess?", since his mother is constantly banging on about how literal he is.

Also, all the actors in my audio version pronounced Aspergers as Ass Burgers.

Dragged on quite a bit, a vaccine fearing psychiatrist and I guessed the ending early on.

Another unputdownable page turner from JP, who always delivers, and a fascinating insight into the world of Aspergers.
