So I just want to start this review off by saying that I did not grow up having the best relationship with my dad. He was absent for pretty much my entire childhood and it was only recently that we reconnected and are attempting to move forward. While reading this book, the moments between Calla and her father hit a little close to home and I found myself extremely emotional and sometimes crying without even realized I had started. KA Tucker wrote something, that to me, spoke to trauma and loss and it was just so damn relatable that I couldn't give this anything other than 5 stars.
Aside from the emotional connection, the writing was just flawless. Tucker captured the emotions of uprooting your life, the comfort of living in a small town, and the sense of belonging at finding a home. Alaska was a beautiful setting for this story, having it being in a place so remote that Calla really had no choice but to face her father and their past. But because of this, we also got to see how life exists in a place so different from what most of us know.
Then there's Jonah. The male love interest. I was drawn to him immediately and loved as, with each page, more and more of him was revealed to us. He was a tough nut to crack but he was so protective of the people he loves - including Calla's father - that he wasn't going to just let Calla come in and upset the balance they all have. The two were like fire and water and I was just waiting for the collision because I knew it would be FIRE.
While the scenes with Jonah and Calla were spicy and hilarious, it was the quiet moments with her and her father that resonated with me. The blend of humor and seriousness was perfect - never letting us sit too much in our sadness before giving us a little light. It just flowed to effortlessly.
This book sat on my shelf for years and I regret not reading this sooner. Now I just need to get my hands on the rest of the series because I need to know how this ends.

This book took me a little bit to get into, but once I did, my goodness, it took me on a ride of all rides. I predicted how the good the book would be. Some of my thoughts were correct but I’m so glad the ending through a surprise at the end! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

So so so good. If you want an amazing slow burn romance novel set in Alaska with some decent character arcs, read this book.

Much better than I expected! Slow burn at the beginning but what a great book. Had me laughing out loud, crying and smiling.
