I enjoyed this story, but didn't feel the need to read the rest of the series. I didn't like Jonah's controlling traits (putting her in the smaller plane to punish her for being a "city girl", stealing her luggage and lying by omission, hiding her makeup and hair products because he felt she "looked better without all that crap on her face"), although I felt he had some other redeeming qualities and they balanced each other well throughout Calla's loss of her father and as they got together. I thought the pet raccoons was a funny addition for some levity, and I appreciated how Calla got back at Jonah by shaving his face. I liked the resolution in the first book, that Calla and Jonah's story was different from her parents', and felt the story ended well there.

Enjoyable read, but the way that the book/characters fault the FMC for not keeping in touch with her father when he stopped calling and visiting her when she was 13 is… a choice. Like, a child does not bear equal responsibility as her pilot father for this. It’s not like she could jump on a plane and visit…. Unlike him. Like. Come on now.

I loved this book and can’t wait to see what happens next for Calla and Jonah! The enemies to lovers trope is a hit, the Yeti was a perfect description of Jonah, and the growth by Calla and Jonah was so well done. They are kind of doing what her parents did, but they aren’t making the mistakes, hopefully!

Nice sense of place in the descriptions of Alaska. The side characters were also wonderful.

After reading and loving The Great Alone a year ago and seeing the glowing comments from other readers about the book, I had very high expectations for The Simple Wild. Unfortunately, my enjoyment fell far short. The storyline was very predictable, and the characters, particularly 'the yeti,' were one-dimensional and unlikable. The early interactions between Jonah and Calla were not very believable. I can't imagine any woman falling for a man who treats her as shamelessly as he did; I can't imagine any dad allowing that kind of behavior toward his daughter. I don't know this for certain, since I've never read a romance novel, but I feel this book falls under that particular category. I wish the author had spent at least as much time describing the Alaskan scenery, landscape, etc. as she does Jonah's body. But there were portions I did enjoy. I hope I'm not saying too much when I say that I appreciated the surprise appearance near the end of the novel; that was well done. But overall, I can only give this book two stars.

for some odd reason, i couldn't get into reading this book. so i decided to pick it up on libby as an audible. when i tell you that was the best decision.... this book was SO goood. so beautiful. i related to calla and how she felt about her own father in the beginning, and from there it just blossomed. i really enjoyed this (which i did not expect). it's just a beautiful story about family in general, life, love, and loss. it blew me away.

cant wait to start the next one
