Good read. If you have read 'I Tina', you will find the first 130 or so pages of 'My Love Story' goes over much of 'I Tina', though not as much detail and there are a couple of new things. Then it continues on from that point to fill in the following years. I loved the depth and detail of 'I Tina', but also enjoyed this book for the more up to date story.
incredible introduction to Tina Turners life from the beginning to now. I didn’t know she already wrote a memoir in the 80s which is what what’s love got to do with it is based on. I think it’s so interesting that she’s never seen it. I think that means that besides the things she calls out it’s pretty accurate. I want to read that one for my movie. I loved learning about her life now. Erwin seems really nice and really good for her. She is a lesson that happiness can come at any stage in your life you just have to be strong enough to wait for it.
Really emotional rollercoaster ride but also very uplifting and inspiring. Love the pictures. What a life! What a woman! She was very candid about painful events and recent health problems.
2.5*
According to my Goodreads, I started reading this book in August and it took me almost four months to get through it. This is particularly strange because for an autobiography, it’s quite short - spanning over less than 300 pages. One of the reasons that I kept putting this book down was the writing style - it didn’t particularly gel with me because it comes across as over-simplistic, almost told in a fairytale type manner and the exposition got annoying. I was about to DNF but decided to watch a few Tina Turner interviews. I think that propelled my reading experience because I realised she wrote the book, just like she talked. I’m glad I finished it but for a woman with such an extraordinary story to tell, it didn’t seem to be enough, at least for me.

This was a terrific memoir told in a style that gave readers the feeling she was candidly talking about her life while sitting across from us in her living room. I'm sure there was much that Tina didn't talk about but what she did write was full of intimate details and events that have not been mentioned before such as her marriage to Ike (the "honeymoon" event was horrendous) and his transgressions, her relationship with Erwin and subsequent marriage (IMO, the marriage ceremony portion was a little TOO detailed), her recent health battles (stroke, cancer, kidney transplant), and her son's fairly recent suicide. I had great respect for Tina before reading this book but now admire her even more.
I honestly can't remember much of I, TINA, so unsure if some of this content was duplicated but I feel comfortable in thinking there is no need to read it as I believe this book will be sufficient for those who want to know more about her life. [If others feel differently, let me know in the comments.]
I did so want to give this five stars but even though I felt Tina was honest and open in her storytelling, there was a wee element of thinking much was omitted, and that's OK as it is her story to tell; I guess we don't know to know everything!

Having read her first memoir more than 30 years ago, this one seemed more refreshing and calm.
The following quote shows that we are NOT in charge of our destiny: "Roger brought me a demo of "What's Love Got to Do With It," and we immediately clashed because I didn't like the song, not one bit." As we all know, that became her most popular solo hit! Thankfully, she listened, but did it her way!
She stated that she felt she had never been loved until her relationship with Erwin. Keep in mind she was nearly 50 years old!
Happy 79th birthday Tina Turner!

Tina is an absolute babe.. whether you are a true fan or just like some of her stuff then this is a definite read for those in either camp.
The first few chapters do talk heavily about Ike and the treatment he gave to Tina, going on to just being Tina to her health issues.
A very interesting book even just for those who love music or autobiographies

I've read Tina Turner's earlier memoir, and this one continues her story. She is not only a talented artist, but a strong woman who survived horrible abuse at the hands of her first husband, Ike. But that is just one part of her story. Here, she shares how she learned to love herself enough to stand on her own two feet, and rebuild her life from scratch after leaving Ike. And once she was able to do that, she found the love of her life, Erwin.
She's a fascinating woman, and I hope you'll take the time to find out more about her and her remarkable life. The book is well written and moves right along.

Interesting and makes a good beach read. Language in context of her relationship with Ike Turner.
