3.4⭐️⭐️⭐️ the main character felt very immature in her decision-making, making the book feel quite frustrating at times. There were also many nonsensical twists and turns that did not feel clearly fleshed out. It was a good bedtime read but difficult to get through at times.

The Spellshop is the best book I’ve read in a while. The beginning was slow to grab for me but it wasn’t boring, just didn’t catch (my) attention. Once I hit around page 60 I believe I was snagged. The tension and trauma response to Larran putting himself back into her life, the yearning that man did and the way he was ALWAYS there and ready to do absolutely anything for her. He also never questioned anything she asked of him. The friendships and found family with all the ladies in town and eventually another coven member were so wholesome and funny. Caz was hilarious and such a cute and original character, his dark side was quite amusing too. Meep is precious and also brings some representation with their character. This book truly is a door to a sweet and lovely little world filled with pastries & fresh jam, talking plants & magical creatures, found family & and precious romance!

Imagine Studio Ghibli meets Stardew valley meets neopets and insert some other magical whimsy. Very cosy and cute book, YA friendly, unexpected twists and turns, and a nice sweet little ending. Love the found family and mix of characters, the magic, and how each chapter feels like you are unlocking more of the island and fixing up different areas/people/situations. I often was asking myself where is this going but also enjoying the friends (and cinnamon rolls/jam) we make along the way.  I could picture this as a mini anime series and I’m not mad about it. Beautifully wholesome. I want to live on the island of Caltrey.

2.75*** I really wanted to love this book after hearing so much about it and reading the sleeve, but it just didn't keep my interest the way I wanted it to! I really wanted to love it, but I ended up thinking it was only okay. It seemed slow at times. I still liked the premise of the story and the fantasy world it took place in.
