While not nearly as good as The Imperial Radch trilogy, that isn't necessarily a bad thing per se. The Imperial Radch trilogy is one of the best series I've read in my life, so while I was expecting more from this book it was still a damn good read, solid 4/5 stars, and I'm looking forward to the sequel if there is one.

The best Space Archaeology Noir I've read. Good, three dimensional characters. In the same sci-fi world as her previous trilogy, but I think it won't be too hard to understand most of what's going on without reading thise (though I can't be sure). The author is so good at inventing and developing worlds with unique cultures, institutions, ideas of gender, etc. And her stories, as foreign and exotic the settings are, excel at being emotionally engaging and essentially human.

Very good worldbuilding, but i was hoping for a little more twist and turn with the plot. It felt like it was set up for a reveal we didnt get… But definitely a fun read and lots of cool ideas to think about.

I admit I was expecting something more similar to Leckie's Radch trilogy, and instead this was a much smaller setting (an invasion, not withstanding), closer to Iain Banks in tone, with a dash of Austen-esque humour thrown in for good measure. Still political, and well worth the read, the blurb was just a little bit misleading.

A much quieter book than the Imperial Radch series, but one that is as interesting in its exploration of gender, society and the provenance of our "souls".

This was a real treat. On par with Ancillary Justice for my favourite book in this universe I've read so far.

DNF. I adored Ancillary Justice and the remainder of that trilogy, but this felt like a great departure and a story with nothing very unique about it.
