This entry in the series felt a little flatter than the first two, sometimes like things were being stretched to fill the book. For a "everyday" "normal" "common" girl, Nina sure doesn't pay much attention to her regular friends/family/life, and the
friendship between her and Daphne erased some of the foil situations that had been established but in a somewhat creative/interesting way. Jeff still felt flat to me, and Sam was so obviously going to get serious with her boy that it was annoying how long it took her to figure that out. I really hated how easily Beatrice's arc with the foreign royalty/climate bill got resolved.

This one was a little slow to start for me. To be fair, I took quite the break from this series and probably could've used a character refresher going into this one. This author does an incredible job of making me hate the bad guys and root for the good ones. This is very high school drama but I ate up every minute of it! I highly recommend this series to people who love dramas or royalty stories! Cannot wait to finish the series.

PS this one ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger... have the next book ready to be read!!

I love this series & loved this book! It’s the 3rd of a YA series about the American monarchy (assuming G Wash was like “nah ima be in charge forever instead of doing democracy). Highlight of this book: Nina & Daphne, we love a frenemies adventure & this one was fun. Sam’s story was cute & empowering & utterly predictable from the start which made it a bit frustrating waiting for her to catch up to what her obvious conclusion was. Beatrice’s story was all politics - the foreign relations & the friendship kind & I loved it until she *SPOILER* gives a really pointless & naive speech that somehow gets every monarch in the world to change their minds all at once??? It’s a nah from me dawg.

Regardless of its flaws, I enjoyed this book just as much as the rest of the series & can’t wait to read the prequel & 4th installment!
