Absolutely fell in love with Renkl's prose and bursting heart in this book! She has a fantastic way of connecting humans and some of their experience into the natural world. Following along with her backyard was nothing short of breathtaking! She manages to capture the beauty of her wild neighbors and pairs it with the brutality of them at the same time. A fantastic read from start to finish! My only complaint is that the chapters were criminally short, I could've read another 200 pages of this.
Moderate: Animal death
Minor: Cancer, Death of parent, Pandemic/Epidemic

Breathtaking. Beautiful. Frameworthy illustrations. One entry describing the natural world outside the author’s window each week. I loved it.

Really lovely and calming. If you liked Amy Tan's Bird Chronicles, you'll like this too.
I want to update my review and change it from a 3 to 3.5. I wasn't really crazy about this book when I first read it. Then last week I spent a week in the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee for my son's break. I actually couldn't stop thinking about this book seeing all of the beautiful nature. So I'm bumping my review up.
