Unfortunately, I somehow missed this was yet another covid lockdown book before reading *big sigh*. I just wanted a peaceful book about observing seasons and nature.

Some passages were beautifully phrased and others were informative, but if you are exhausted by authors attempting to take advantage of the pandemic as "their moment" but saying exactly the same thing as every other writer then skip this one.

So much to love in this book of essays on life, love, finding ourselves within nature, and all things that matter. Since I’ve recently experienced a major move, this quote especially resonated with me.

“Because sometimes the only cure for homesickness is to enlarge the definition of home.”

And if, like me, you listened to the audiobook version, here is a link to illustrations by the author’s brother Billy Renkl

A good last book of the year. I am grateful for my little yard as well!

I wanted to like this more than I did. It should have been right up my alley, but I couldn’t get into it and kept finding other things to read instead. Honestly surprised I finished it.

Simply the most beautiful book I've read in ages.

Part of me giving a book 5 stars means it has a message that will stick with me. I learned so much listening to this book. I like that it has made me pause and think about my surroundings and how to better appreciate and nurture them. Too often we take the birds and grass trees for granted. I wouldn’t have chosen this book for myself and am thankful for following the Reese Witherspoon book club list for leading me to it!

The Comfort of Crows: A Backyard Year by Margaret Renkl is a breathtakingly beautiful book that deeply touched my heart. There were moments that brought me to tears, and many others that filled me with immense joy. Renkl's ability to weave the wonders of nature with profound reflections on life is nothing short of extraordinary. This is the first book I've fallen in love with since Braiding Sweetgrass—it carries the same sense of reverence for the natural world and the interconnectedness of all living things. A must-read for anyone seeking beauty, solace, and inspiration in the everyday.
