Elin Hilderbrand is my guilty pleasure author and The Five-Star Weekend provided me with my summer book palate cleanser this year. Following the death of her husband, Matthew, Hollis plans a weekend with four friends from each stage of her life to spend a weekend with her at her Nantucket summer house. However, it’s not going to be just the fun weekend Hollis expects, as all her friends have secrets they’re hiding from her. I found each character to be distinct from the others and I liked the concept of the book but I wish the synopsis hadn’t revealed so much, as the secrets turned out to be less juicy than I anticipated, especially the reveals. I’m actually annoyed about the ending because I found it very tragic how Gigi was treated, even though, in my opinion, what she did wasn’t as bad as what Matthew did, yet he was given redemption (I don’t care that he’s dead to be honest). I think Caroline should have discovered her father's nasty cheating, even though she might not have cared, since she was also involved in an affair herself (like father, like daughter lol) but at least that might have made her more sympathetic towards her mother. But, maybe not since she was an entitled brat. Plus, are we forgetting that Hollis was also emotionally cheating? Something about that ending felt sooo icky to me because it was undeserved.

this is definitely a different type of read than my usual go to.
this has been on my tbr forever and now just finally getting to it.
the whole idea of inviting friends from different points of the main characters life on a “five-star weekend” intrigued me since not all the friends knew each other so i was interested in how that would play out.
i really liked finding out all the secrets from all the characters following along that way.
some things did become repetitive and lost my interest for a bit but that didn’t deter me from the story as a whole.
i do recommend this as a fun little summer read!
