I've read a few of McNeil's books before and I've always enjoyed them in the past. This, however, was kind of a mess. By which I mean the pacing was extremely weird, the characters weren't particularly likeable, and I found it so plodding at times that I lost track of the fact that it's essentially a Strangers on a Train plotline which should have been utterly compelling and yet just........wasn't.
So yeah. I wanted to like this, I really did. But it was just sort of aggressively mediocre and forgettable.

Not my usual genre, but even so, nothing much happened for the first 100 pages. If I hadn’t read the flap, I wouldn’t have even known it was a murder mystery/thriller

It has an interesting and disturbing storyline with a twist that I did not see coming at the end. Queer representation seems like an afterthought, maybe added later to make sense of things. TW for mentions of sexual abuse and incest.

Title:Dig Two Graves
Author: Gretchen McNeil
Format: Audiobook
Quick Take: Neve Lanier, after being betrayed by her best friend Yasmin, attends a girl's empowerment camp where she falls under the spell of the manipulative Diana who kills Yasmin in exchange for Neve murdering her stepbrother, whom Neve has fallen for.
Thoughts: Gretchen McNeil is one of my favorite authors, so I usually love what she writes and Dig Two Graves was no different. I do have a bias but this was a good book. The twists and turns were great and the characters were actually developed pretty well (though not as well as they could have been) for a such quick read. The overall plot has been done before but McNeil did put her own little spin to it and I think it turned out pretty good.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
