6: The Grownup by Gillian Flynn...as given to me for FREE by the Book of the Month Club, or I fairly surely would not have picked it up. It's super short, and I don't like ghost stories, and...I was surely offended, in my personal prudery, by the first pages and several after that. However, I did read it all, and I am still thinking about it today...a little.

Nothing wrong with a short story to breeze through during a silent book club!
I'd say this book would be just as easily read in one sitting even if it were a longer novel. The pacing is great and the characters, though you only know them for a short time, are dynamic. And damn, does Gillian Flynn know how to mess with your head or what?
My first from this author.
Genuinely creepy at times, but too much “double cross, no double double cross for my liking”.
