Gillian Flynn

3.55 AVERAGE

I’d give it a 3.5/5. I like when stories make you question whether a paranormal aspect exists in the story.

This was a weird read for sure. It started off very interesting and good, but at some point during the book- it felt like the author was rushed into finishing. It literally felt like a roller coaster (but not in the good way). The first part of the roller coaster was interesting and intriguing, and then you reached the peak and the rest of the book just shot towards the end with no real plot twists, horror, or weirdness as the description of the book would have you believe.

The book is short enough where you can read it just to get a book under your belt, but I wouldn't suggest it based on conten.
dark tense medium-paced

Meh.

A fun quick Gillian Flynn thriller! I enjoyed it and didn’t fully see the twist and turns at the end!

i love when gillian flynn give me a convoluted mystery, i’ll always eat it up

This story was super enjoyable for me except for the ambiguous ending.

This book started out very strong. I love the way Flynn builds suspense and unravels mystery. I was intrigued from the beginning. I loved the main character and all her faults. She held nothing back and apologized for nothing. The story was creepy and I had no idea where it was going. I was stunned at the twist right before the end. Everything started to make sense and fit together nicely. Unfortunately, the author didn’t leave it at that. She added another twist that was just kind of ridiculous. This book would have been great, but I was a little disappointed in the end.

This is an incredibly short story.

I don't know how to feel about the ending? And I think that's the point.

You really get a feel for the main character although they remain unnamed throughout the entire story. They've lived a pretty rough life and have developed the belief that life is a series of transactions. You give someone something and they give you something in return; no hard feelings. Of course someone enters their life and makes them question that because all stories like this eventually turn out that way.

However, the journey was still entertaining. The tone of this book, especially the scene where the narrator first enters the Carterhook mansion, is so easy to immerse yourself in. I got chills just reading the descriptions and their first meeting with Miles.

The twist was a surprise. I definitely knew something was coming but I was still surprised. I love Flynn's books for that very reason. You expect something isn't as it seems, you tell yourself you know exactly what it is and when the twist comes, you get mad at yourself for not seeing it.

Even saying that, the ending was a bit weak for me. Still, this is a definitely a recommend.
