If you like the copious use of the words "hand jobs" and "dick" this book is for you. If you are a woman looking for self worth or self respect this book is not for you. If you are a guy trying to finish up reading 200 books in a year and need to read a few short stories to put you over that count then this is probably short enough to aid in that venture.

The first part of the book is porn. If you manage to get through that part the middle section is actually very good. A solid mystery thriller with some psychological mind bending crap going on. The end though is just a cliff, comes off feeling like she just ran out of paper or her time was up. Sorry Gillian doesn't work for me.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this short story. It started off rather strange, got a bit more interesting, pulled me into the suspense, then it just sort of ended... It wasn't the worst way to spend 45 minutes, but not the best either. If you like suspense that centers on the supernatural (or are a fan of Gillian Flynn's writing style) then you may enjoy this story. It just wasn't for me.

I love Flynn's writing, and much of what her readers enjoy about her work is present in this shorter piece. While it's worth a read, it's unfortunately not quite up to the standard of her novels, in particular the ending which seemed a bit of a shrug.

Eh. It was okay. Easy read though.

"The Grownup" was originally part of a short story collection, and would probably feel more satisfying in that context than as a one-off. I'd still say that I'll read anything Gillian Flynn cares to write, but this was just OK, not spectacular.

Smart, clever and twisty.

3.5 Stars (COME ON GOODREADS...GIVE US HALF STAR CAPABILITY).

A quick, fun read. I love stories that leave the end hanging in the air...
