Clever closed circle mystery about three women from the same family who died in the same manner years apart. Nice use of the isolated setting on a snowy Icelandic peninsula and good character development for the series lead detective.

Interesting read and very atmospheric. The characters come off a little cold and distant and I'm not sure if that's a translation issue or the author's style. Either way, it was a fast, enjoyable read.

I’m so glad to be diving back into police work with Ari Thor!  He’s seriously one of my favorite detectives.  This book is part of the Dark Iceland series, and it is dark, chilling, and a bit complex.  The beginning was a bit slow, and a little confusing for me.  But I was hooked once the investigation started.  This book took place during Christmas, so it was a nice balance of dark investigation and happy holidays.  I really liked that we got to explore more of the other characters in this one, like Kristin.  I’m really interested to see where the series is going.  I can’t wait to read the next one, Nightblind.  Once again, Ragnar’s writing has created a disturbing, yet beautiful Icelandic atmosphere.  I really want to visit one day.  Anyway… this was such a good book.  I highly suggest this series if you’re interested in light Nordic Noir.
