I tried to get into this book like 80 billion times. But, when I *finally* got into the book, it was quick reading. In my opinion, Nesbo is a far better writer than Larson.

Not a huge fan of Nesbo's writing style, but it could be it is more the personality of the Harry Hole. I do like how the story was pieced together in the end, even though it made me think I must have missed something earlier. The book also had spoilers to events that had happened earlier in the series. I'm not sure they are big enough to discourage me from trying to read books earlier in the series.

This one was just kind of meh. While there was occasionally nice writing or high suspense, the rest of the time was pretty flat. None of the approximately 1 billion characters really caught my sympathy or respect, including the main ones. I found that I really didn't care about their relationships/interactions and found myself rolling my eyes at how they all spent their time banging each other or thinking about how they wanted to bang each other. There were just too many characters and too many red herrings. Also, I immediately lost respect for the author when the only female officer on the case randomly burst into tears and said "It's been a weird week....I'm on my period.".....um no, sorry. Didn't really live up to the hype, and not really interested in seeing the movie.

88 pages in & I was terrified. Worth it

It was pretty good. A little more humor (like wry, dark "humor", not haha stuff) than the previous ones. Maybe that's why this one is the most highly acclaimed of the series? I like all of them. This one was good, but it was AS good AS the previous ones in the series.

Good introduction to the Harry Hole series!

I'm glad I read this book and I'll be starting at the beginning of the series. I did not care for Harry Hole by the middle of the book but then his character was better for me by the end. I have a feeling this is due to not knowing his backstory, why he battles alcoholism, why he's a lone wolf and some of the personal demons he struggles with. Once I get more information about his character, I'm sure I'm going to love this guy.

So my advice is to start at the beginning of the series so you understand Harry Hole and all the other characters in the Oslo Police Department, along with his personal relationship with Rakel and Oleg.

I loved how the book took us along on the case of catching the Snowman. Going through each clue, a new person of interest and getting hidden information about the victims. I enjoyed Jo Nesbo's writing style on building up the mystery and tension of who the Snowman was. There were a few plot twists in the book that I figured out but it was still well done!

I wish that I knew Norway better and how to pronounce the names of all the cities and towns along with the characters names! I struggled with that a bit and I guess I need to travel to Norway one day! Woohoo! :)

I recommend this book to people that enjoy crime thrillers and mysteries!
