I read this book to my cousin and I can say that he enjoyed it. I liked it too but in terms of story line it was very predictable. It's the kind of story where the main character goes off on a mission and comes back victorious. It isn't very realistic but my 6 year old cousin liked it and that was the main reason I was reading it after all. It is one of those books where small children can either read on their own or have it read to them over a few nights(the book is just over 100 pages and is part of a series).

All in all, I was able to smile at the childishness of the story line but also enjoy my cousins reaction to this type of book which is new to him, which was more that worth it!

My 8 year old sons love everything they have read so far from this author.

I read this out of curiosity about a series with so many titles. Like the volume I tried from Daisy Meadows' Rainbow Magic series, this was better than I expected. Recommended to young readers who aren't afraid to see a vast ocean of sequels spread before them.

Beast Quest: Ferno
I think this must be what reading books are talking about when they say books heavy on action and adventure for boys that don't waste time on description or super involved character background.

Beast Quest gets right down to it, and something is happening every moment. From the beginning where the knight dyes on the back of the dragon to Tom's village burning down to his constant struggle against the villains along the way. This is formulaic with shades of King Arthur, Robin Hood and every classic knight's tale. There's a token female character who served in a crucial supporting role, two mystical animals that respond to their master's every need often before they know they need it and a dragon that needs to be freed rather than killed.

This is recommended for middle to upper elementary readers in search of page turning action.

Well this was a little better than what I was thinking. The story is evidently for kids because there is anything complicated about it, everything happens in a few paragraphs. But then the background story was well thought I can see similarities with Eragon and Tom and Elenna are brave and cute duo.

I absolutely loved Tom's map! I'd give anything to have such thing! And Cinza and Trovão are very useful and beautiful pets

I'm curious about Tom's age...

Read this with my 4 year old brother and he really enjoyed it. Planning on reading him at least the first 6 in the series.

This review I have rated 3/5, generally because it is not something that I would pick up to read for myself, but as a children's book, it ticks all the boxes. So the review rating focuses more in my opinion of the book more than anything.
This book as I said ticks all the boxes, orphan sent on a quest, faces challenges and meets friends upon the way and in the end ***spoiler*** completes the quest. Now although relatively simple, these books are hugely popular with young children and you can see why, even though as an adult I can see a predictable plot, it has the basic things that will fire a children's imagination. Action, adventure and empowerment of the child. The fantasy element of the dragon enables children's imagination to run wild and allows violence to. It seem so sincere in the book. Overall, it's not hard to see why there is over 100 books in this series and children, especially boys love them.

Good for a starting reader: the plot is engaging enough, the characters are easy to follow and the book can open the world to fantasy reading in the future. It's about a fantastic quest, relying on yourself, finding friends and allays, and it's all easy and fun to read.
The downside is that the information is spoonfed all the time. I, as a reader, did not need to think at all, but maybe that is the level of help children need at this point, because when you learn letters and writing, reading is hard enough as it is, so the information being easy to absorb might be beneficial.
The reading experience is good.

La scrittura è scorrevole. E qua finiscono anche i pregi. Mediocre, con diverse falle logiche e molte ingenuità, la storia è davvero tanto trita e ritrita e si capisce che non è "sentita". Trama standard #37. Leggetevi Deltora piuttosto.
