This book was a ride for me.

I continued to struggle with who she should end up with. I'm not sure I've ever struggled with making a choice so much, but then it becomes clear. Sheila also puts the characters and us through it in the 3rd act. I almost cried on an airplane while reading.

I am super excited to see where things go within this world.

“You deserve to be loved exactly as you are. You don’t need to be less. If he wants less, he can go find it elsewhere.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️

I enjoyed this sequel book even more than the first book!

(There are currently 3 out of 4 books currently available. I believe the final book is being released Summer 2024.)

Overview:
⚔️ Adult Romantasy
🌟 Fiesty Powerhouse FMC
❤️ Angsty Love Triangle
💫 Internal Strife
🫶🏼 Found Family
🥹 Full Throttle Love Confessions
👀 Plot Twists

While the first book set up the world building and the characters, this sequel broadened and dove deeper into all of it.

Cecelia really, really goes through the trenches. She has a complete reckoning with her sense of self, and the ending had me gasping.

I love both Xander and Rainer. Their internal dialogues and conflicts and convictions… I genuinely think I’m rooting for them both to find peace and happiness.

(Side Note: I’m not generally a Love Triangle person, but the way Sheila Masterson is writing this one is actually working for me!)

There’s more emotion, more spice, more drama, more at stake, and I’m very excited to read the third book.

Overall, I definitely recommend this series to all Romantasy lovers!

“I think maybe that’s something the world has tried to convince you,” he continued. “That you’re only worth what you can do for people. I think I participated in that for a while and I’m sorry. You are everything to me, and I don’t need anything from you. You owe me nothing.”

The Memory Curse stomped on my heart in the best way. The angst is HIGH, the love triangle kept me guessing, and all of the emotions were captured beautifully. Sheila is truly gifted in the way she writes about love and loss - I had SO many quotes I had to make a quotes slide to include more, and I wanted to include more. I cried several times throughout this book and was sliding into Sheila’s DMs with my reactions - thank you for the support ❤️

If you enjoy emotionally powerful prose, a complex feelings love triangle, deals with tricky gods, a badass FMC and unique witch magic, you will love The Memory Curse. This is book 2 in The Lost God series and is available now on KU! Do not sleep on this series, it does not get the hype it deserves

This fantasy romance was so fun! The romance, tension, and love triangle were so well done. I am a Xander girl and so this book hurt. IYKYK. I was enthralled with the story, world, characters, and magic system, and I will definitely be picking up the third book.

brb while i pick up the shattered remains of my heart after this one.

this is book two of a series! check out my review for book one here.

hello, ANGST. devastating, plot-twisty romantasies with a good love triangle are my i-know-this-is-gonna-wreck-me-but-i-want-it guilty pleasure. and the memory curse doubles up on the angst, doubles up on the romance (while also halving the romance), and doubles up on the character growth.

where the lost god focused more on cecelia’s outward experiences and reactions to shifting circumstances, the memory curse turns inward, as cece examines who she is now, what she’s sacrificed, and what she ultimately wants — all, of course, while fighting an impossible war against two formidable enemies.

while the lost god was a nonstop action-packed adventure, the memory curse slows down significantly, forcing cecelia to sort through and process all of the heavy feelings and harrowing experiences she had over the course of the first book. this book is emotional, it’s cathartic, and while it sacrifices the fast-paced plot development we got in the lost god, it doubles up on the feels as we meet cece exactly where she is — lost.

while the lost god introduced a love triangle of epic proportions (i have not felt this strongly about competing love interests since my twilight days — and even then, i was rooting for the best friend. guess i have a type.), the memory curses focuses on those relationships, and how they mesh — or clash, perhaps — with who she is now.

while this deep rumination is happening within the context of dysfunctional family dynamics and kingdoms at war, to me, this story felt like a love letter to anyone who’s ever done the difficult, heartwrenching work of reconciling their past selves with who they’ve grown into — it’s hard and heartbreaking work to acknowledge mistakes and move forward with love in your heart, but cecelia tackles it with grace and all of her fiery, passionate devotion.

if you’re going into this one expecting the whirlwind plot of the lost god, you may be disappointed, as this installment shines most brightly as a poignant character study — but all of this growth happens amidst a backdrop of mischievous gods and goddesses, and a kingdom under a constant threat of war.

i struggled a bit in the beginning to adapt to the slower pace, but once i recognized this story for what it was — an emotional reckoning for cecelia — i thoroughly enjoyed it. be warned, though — while there are clutch-your-chest-in-panic plot twists, if dialogue-heavy, character-driven romantic stories aren't your cup of tea, you may struggle with this sequel.

buuuuuut, if you’re into angsty love triangles, declarations of love that will make you want to rip your own heart out, plot twists and betrayals, you’ll enjoy this one. make sure you instacart some tissues, though, because this one hurts.

thank you to sheila for the ARC (and for handling my onslaught of panic DMs during that chapter with the same humor and grace as her main character
