This is a wonderful, beautiful series, and I think the originality of especially this first book sets it apart from anything I've read.
Sabine is a mystery, and the complexity of the relationship plays out in her letters to Griffin. Even their names are part of the magic woven by this spellbinding story. The writing is poetic, and the quality of of the story ethereal, a beautiful experience.
Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Reorganizing my bookshelves means that I'm going to lose myself re-reading at least one thing and this time it was Griffin and Sabine. It was a delight diving back in and opening all of those letters again. What a weird and wonderful piece of work. Now I'm going to have to revisit the rest of the books in the series before they go back on the shelf.
Book Riot Read Harder Challenge #2: An epistolary novel or collection of letters.
Take 2, because I felt like lingering I'm this challenge a bit.
I love the idea of this book. It's a cool idea, beautifully executed - letters and postcards between two people who are mysteriously linked. You get to take the letters out of the envelopes and read them. It's all very precious, but in a way I can get down with.
But you can't borrow it from the library - the format means that it would be too easy for pieces to get lost or damaged, so my library system keeps it in the rate books collection. Which is fine, but I didn't necessarily want to read it there. So I bought a used copy. Which is fine - I don't generally but books, but I had a gift certificate, so okay.
But this book, it turns out, is just the first part of a whole series! And if I didn't know that, I would have accepted the ending as an ending - open-ended, yes, but I like that in an ending. But knowing that it's really just the first chapter ... Am I going to actually buy a whole series of this? I'm not sure I'm that invested.
If I could easily read this whole story for free, I think I'd like it a lot more. As it is, the format is more of a bug than a feature for me.

Wow, great concept! And a cliffhanger at the end that makes me go in search of the next book in the trilogy ASAP.
