Representation matters! The love and appreciation of our natural kinks and coils needs to start early. Children should be encouraged to be who they are, naturally. I loved this illustrated story of a moment in time between father and daughter. I enjoyed the truth of Black family dynamics and love.
The illustrations in this book, beautifully rendered by Vashti Harrison are so imaginative. Looking at more than just the main subject, you learn so much about this family by what’s around them. A forgotten doll tucked behind the couch. A remote on the floor, dropped in sleep. A checkered floor. Or a cluttered sink. It’s all so inviting.
A must have on any young readers shelf.

A beautiful picture book about how a dad helps his daughter style her natural hair.
Love the images and the story was wonderfully heartfelt.

This diverse book is a must for every library collection! I love that it shows a sweet relationship between a father and a daughter and it involves him styling her hair in different ways. There are not enough books that show fathers in this nature and especially fathers of color. Loved it so much!
I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING!

The way I wish I had this book when I was a kid! I am so glad this exists and am so happy that kids nowadays have access to books like this that celebrate their hair and natural beauty! I will forever be grateful for books like this and will continue to support books like this so the world does not turn out kids who grow to hate themselves. Now excuse me, I need to spend the rest of my afternoon crying.

While Matthew Cherry's Hair Love might be best geared to readers who are young girls with kinky-curly masses of hair, I am none of those things and thought that it was a terrific children's illustrated book.
Zuri, a young girl of color, loves her hair and the multitude of styles she can wear it, as well as all its magical properties. Her Daddy is being primary care-giver and has the task of giving it the perfect style for a very important day. He struggles! But he is an heroic father, dedicated to his daughter's happiness, and her beauty! So lovely! The illustrations by Vashti Harrison exude happiness, and will bring smile after smile to young readers.

huge win for our little black girls 🥹❤️ equally huge win for those who needed this story as children and can both enjoy it themselves and pass on the love to others (especially to younger generations)

Me: What a beautiful story that not only features under-represented characters but shows a masculine father figure participating in feminine activities for his daughter in a positive way.
Also me: DADDY IS HOT
