A compelling read, offering more exposition to the story. I really like the way each chapter begins with a short exposition from the 'prophecy', or whatever that is. It makes for a really cool puzzle, as I try to understand it at the same time the characters do the same. The end was a bit of a let-down, though. I can see how that was a logical conclusion, but I felt a little disappointed at that.
If you've read the first book, then this is a must read, because it explains so much, and offers a new angle to the story.

It’s been a year since Vin struck down the Lord Ruler. Elend now holds the throne of Luthadel, but since they never found the Lord Ruler’s atium stash, the economy is in shambles and the newly founded Assembly, consisting of noblemen, merchants and skaa, does nothing but bickering. It does not help that an army has just arrived on the outskirts of the city, and since bad things come in three, soon a second army joins the first. Our main characters in the city try and turn the armies one against the other, but neither is dumb enough to fall for it.
This book is filled with political intrigue, and the main characters try to find a way out of a lose-lose situation. We finally have some insight on some of the main players’ thoughts and motives, and the world that emerges is vibrant and real. There is always another mystery, another plot, another challenge, and sometimes the solution only brings more problems than it solves.
There is friendship, there is love, there is hope, there is determination. There are good intentions and poor executions. Everyone learns, grows, suffers, fails. The worldbuilding is extremely consistent and well thought out; the characters are believable and stay true to themselves, each facing their own problems.

The adventure continues, I have so much fun trying to guess where it's going the entire time. My partner is stunned I read books this way, always trying to figure out what's next. I'm stunned he doesn't.

I don't think this is Sanderson's best work - I noted some "telling, not showing" toward the middle. I had a hard time with the relationship between Vin and Elend - it just didn't feel authentic to me. And the book didn't move as well as the first one, nor was it funny (I miss Kelsier). That said, I'm looking forward to the third book!
