My main gripe is that the character was stated to be Catholic, but her family acts and speaks like Evangelicals. Also

the dog dies :(

First off, I really liked the concept of this book. It needs work, but it is a wonderful concept. Secondly, I appreciate the book's exploration of Wisconsin. It seems like the author really cared about this place and the novel acts as a love letter to the state. I really liked the use of real locations in this novel.

Third of all, PTSD and sensory experiences are very much a part of this book. I think the author paid good attention to these topics and gave them the respect they deserve.

This book is an amazing example of tell, don't show. Things seem to happen for the sake of convenience.

AMERICAN RAPTURE is my intro into C.J. Leede's work, and what a powerfully terrifying, emotion-filled book this was!

The characters were rich, the Catholic guilt was strong, the midwestern Wisconsin vibes were on point, and the epidemic downright terrifying.

(check the triggers on this one), but highly recommend checking this one out if horror is your thing!
